Is Jesus Christ Really God?
We read in Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” Says the Lord God, “ who is , who was, and is to come, the Almighty.” Everyone agrees that this must refer to God, or Jehovah. Likewise Revelation 22:12&13 “Behold I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End”
Also Revelation 1:17&18.”When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “ Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the living One: I was dead, and behold I am alive forever and ever!” When did God die? When did God arise and become alive for ever and ever? Look it up in any translation, they all say virtually the same thing.
When Jesus Christ died on the cross that is when God died. Not only did he die for us he also created us. Colossians 1:16 “For by him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” Also verses 19&20 “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood shed on the cross.”
I would like to quote C. S. Lewis in Mere Christianity:
“I am trying to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people are saying about him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say, a man who was merely a man and said the sort of things that Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic --on the level of a man who says he is a poached egg--or else he would be the devil from Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up as a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon, or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
We should be able to say with doubting Thomas . John 20:28 “My Lord and my God”
