What must I do to get into Heaven?
We cannot earn our way into Heaven! God says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
There is good news and bad news. The bad news first, we have all sinned and don’t deserve Heaven. James 2:10 says “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” If you missed a stop sign and were caught, you wouldn’t gain anything by telling the judge about all the other stop signs you stopped for. God is just, He cannot allow sin in Heaven! We cannot earn our way into Heaven just by doing good.
Now the GOOD NEWS, Jesus died on the cross to pay for sin, no one else could do that. Because He died for sinners—we (all us sinners) can stand before Him and ask Him to forgive us. He is more than willing to forgive and give us the gift of salvation. This means that if we receive this gift we will be in Heaven with Him when we die. This gift is a new life we receive from Him. To show our gratitude for this new life, we will have a strong desire to read the Bible and attend church where we can worship Him and learn how He wants us to live. When we have received Him by faith, we should be excited and willing to tell others about this free gift.
